The idea for Nordic Huts came about when an Aussie guy met a Danish girl.
Several years and two children later, they found themselves living on the family property in the foothills of the You Yangs Regional Park in a hand-built home that is distinctly Australian in design, but which features Scandinavian touches throughout.
One of those home-away-from-home touches was the pencil-drawn design of an outdoor room that mirrored the unique style of Danish backyard sheds, known as ‘skur’. This distinctive look has itself been taken from mushrooming and fishing huts dotted around the Danish coast and country.
From this sketch, the first Nordic Hut was built on Australian soil, initially as a one-off, then as a fledgling business idea as more and more people saw and loved it.
Now customised to withstand the obvious differences of the Australian climate, our Nordic Huts have been used and tested by family and friends to ensure they’re durable and practical.
And, in order to reduce our carbon footprint, we source our timber from sustainably grown forests and have a corporate partnership with the Denmark Nature Conservation Association to help rewild and reforest areas of natural beauty. Also, every hut comes fully insulated and the exterior is finished with heat reflective paint to keep your hut comfortable all year round.
